August 14, 2008 by , under Textual Tattoos.
Textual tattoos, script tattoos, word tattoos, tattoo lettering, literary tattoos, however way you call them, they all have one thing in common. They are tattoo art that use phrases or sentences as designs instead of images. They can either be excerpts from poems or songs, inspiring quotations or sayings, they can be catchy phrases or sentences taken from favorite books or movies or from well-known literary works.
They can also be as simple as one word text that’s powerful and meaningful. To make it even more attractive and interesting, a lot of tattoo aficionados convert these text designs to foreign languages - Kanji, Latin, French, Italian, Hebrew, French and even Sanskrit. Perhaps to create textual tattoos that are visible yet discreet at the same time and can cause amazement or baffle the onlookers.
Some textual tattoos are just one liner, others can go to three to four sentences or even more. These kind of tattoos are usually found inked on the back, shoulder blade, arms, ribs, wrist, hand, foot or lower stomach. Other consideration when deciding on this kind of design is the type of font that will be used to render it on the body. The script or cursive fonts are some of the most popular styles.
This type of body art has become quite popular nowadays since they can be great deviation from the standard tattoo theme that we see everyday. A tattooist who will be executing this style must be artistic and skillful enough to come up with an excellent lettering and script that will flow naturally with the shape of the body part where it will be tattooed.
